Where in the World is Syb?

Happy Solstice

Summer started early and with a splash – Palm Springs Photo Festival was a  deep dive into photography  – informative, intimate and unique. Portfolio reviews by day, afternoon panel discussions, al fresco dinner parties capped off by a renowned photographer presenting work and talking process. Take a look. Had a blast introducing my Concept Aware® curriculum to 48 seminar participants.

How You See and Why it Matters could have been the title of the podcast I did with the Photo Brigade. It was an opportunity to unpack Concept and Creativity – give a listen here.

Exposure, the online magazine of the Society of Photographic Educators, published my review of the longest running photo fair, AIPAD (Association of International Photography Art Dealers). Check out, See Why You, a Photographer, Should Go To AIPAD, here.

Adorama invited me to convene and moderate a panel on Art and Activism for their Inspire Conference. Our panel was a call to act, innovate, and connect. Each an aesthetic force – artists Miska Draskoczy and Tamara Staples with cultural anthroplogist and curator Niama Safia Sandy, joined writer Siddhartha Mitter and visual culture innovator Claudine Boeglin to explore arts ability to create social change. Look for the it live on Photo Brigade soon.

Looking forward to bringing Concept Aware®: Enhance Your Creative Practice to the Los Angeles Center of Photography during their Exposure weekend, July 20-22nd.

It is not too soon to start planning for Paris Photo. My guided tour with the Griffin Museum of Photography begins with 4 hours of pre-planning in September and October. The tour includes an invitation to the private opening and 4 meetings with international gallery directors. Experience the pulse of photography on an international level, see the trends, discover new output options and witness the expansive impact of current visual culture – join us! Details here.

I hope this season offers cool waters and calm vistas. Enjoy!
